Loré Lixenberg is a singer and maker. Her own work extends into coding, soundart, radiophonic work, film and direction. Having studied as a mezzo soprano, she went on to apply operatic voice to physical theatre with UK based, LeCoq influenced, Complicité with Simon McBurney and the revolutionary controversial comedy club, KUUUB ZARATHUSTRA with Stewart Lee, Simon Munnery and Richard Thomas. She has
collaborated on experimental installations and vocal performances with experimental visual and sound artists like STELARC, Bruce Mclean, ORLAN, Georgina Starr, Imogen Sidworthy and David Toop at the Aldeburgh Festival, Royal Academy of Arts London, Whitchapel gallery etc… Collaborations also with institutions such as The Wellcome Foundation, The Natural History Museum London (performances of BIRD) also as an extended- voice fashion model as part of Georgina Starr's new film 'Quarantine' with Hermes fashion house. She has performed the works of composers such as Aperghis, Burrell, Beat, Howard, Baukholt, Gribbin, Oehring, Osborn, Power, Turnage, Ligeti, Stockhausen, Furrer, Birtwistle, Earle Brown, Ferrari, Barry, Oliveros, Acquaviva, Niblock, Dufour, Fujikura, Hind, Rønshold, Wishart, Karlidag, Blandina, Moretti, da Mata among many others, performing with many ensembles in contemporary music festivals worldwide (Witten, Donaueschingen, Wien Modern, Ultima...) with music ensembles BCMG, Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Ensemble Recherche, Cikada… She recently premiered MARS 1 by Jennifer Walshe with Klangforum Wien and in 2023 performed and composed the score for the role of ELETRICITET for Kirsten Dehlholm and Hotel Pro Forma at Statenskunst Museum, Copehagen. She has made numerous experimental comedy opera series for BBC2 and Channel 4 such as 'The Kombat Operas', ‘FTRTV', 'Attention Scum', and 'Strings Bows and Bellows’. Her compositional focus is exploration of operatic structure taking inspiration from the liminal world between digital and everyday, analogue participatory structures. These pieces include '200 Birdsong Studies by Lore Lixenbenbird and Birds', 'INNANACARA', and 'theVoicePartyOperaBotFarm[myMuseIsMyFury]' winning the Phonurgianova international soundart prize 2021. Other works include 'THE SINGTERVIEWS', 'PRET A CHANTER', 'SINGLR', which is an operatic dating app with an extended voice SINGLR SALON as its outcome, VOXXCOIN the singing blockchain that takes fiscal exchange as its structure, LETHE a film opera, in which death rituals are the inspiration, integrating music, theatre, interactive gaming and cosplay within a rigorous theoretical framework. It draws onWishart, Kwon, Kester, and the rich traditions of both Greek mythology and theatrical practices. It was premiered at The South London Gallery in June 2024 and will be
shown at Cafe Oto September 2025.
She founded THE VOICE PARTY in 2017 and stood in the UK general election of 2019 achieving 79 votes, standing again in 2024 achieving 200 votes. It is an undefinable piece being both a political party and an opera taking political structure as the inspiration for an opera, and taking musical structure as an
inspiration for the guidance of daily life.
As a director she directed the UK premiere of Kagel's STAATSTHEATER in collaboration with Durham University and The Sage Gateshead, Wishart's ANTICREDOS, Nam June Paik's SYMPHONY FOR 20 ROOMS in collaboration with Scenatet and DEN FRIE Gallery in Copenhagen that was the epicentre of
Scandinavian Fluxus, THE FOOL in collaboration with Takkeloftet atthe Danish Royal Opera and Trio Zoom in which she created a set of films mocumenting the rehearsal process, ORD FOR ORD by Ronshøldt at the SPOR festival in Denmark, with Scenatet also AN EVENING WITH PIERROT LUNAIRE and Sciarrino's INFINTO NERO at the Warsaw Autumn. As performer/Director with the Czech Philharmonie in Brno, she performed the Czech premiere of Scelsi's CANTI DEL CAPRICORNO, also in 2023 directed/performed and
designed Maxwell Davies MISS DONNITHORNE'S MAGGOT for Neue Oper Fribourg. She ran Berlin based art space La Plaque Tournante with composer Frederic Acquaviva, a space devoted to exhibitions, installations and performances of the vintage and current avant-garde, winning the Berlin Senate Prize for Best ProjectRaum 2017. Highlights of her discography are the first recording of Cage's SONGBOOKS on the Sub Rosa label, and a vinyl, NANCARROWKARAOKE, her own transcriptions of the piano rolls
of Nancarrow for her own voice, for the Dutch ‘De Player’ label released in 2020. She published an artist book 'Memory Maps', monographic CD 'The afternoon of a phone' (£@B). Her 'theVoicePartyOperaBotfarm' was recently broadcast on both Austrian KunstRadio O1 and RadioDeutschlandFunkKultur. In 2026 she will collaborate with Jennifer Walshe and Philip Venables at the new Cartier Gallery Paris with the Musica Festival Strasbourg as well as her Wigmore Hall concert with her duo Akkordeon Baroque. She completed her PhD at the University of York 2025 title: ‘OPERA IS DEAD!!!! LONG LIVE APPERA!!!!’
Currently doing a postdoc at York University researching the applicacation of AI to the music of Guillaume de Machaut in performance.
